Some takeaways from Catherine’s perspectives:
- Fun is a feeling and not an activity
-
People who are having fun look like they’re being illuminated from within
- True fun produces this visceral sense of lightness and joy
- Three factors are consistently present: playfulness, connection and flow
- It’s possible to be in flow and not have fun, but you cannot have fun if you’re not in flow (flow state)
- Fun doesn’t just feel good, it is good for us
- Fun also makes us present
- Fun also unites us
- Fun also makes us healthier (having fun is a health intervention)
- Fun is joyful, fun makes us happy
- Reduce distractions (such as phones) to increase flow
- Increase connections by interacting more with other human beings in real life
- Increase playfulness by finding opportunities to rebel (playful deviance)
