Video: Breaking the Silence about Childhood Trauma | Dani Bostick | TEDxGreenville

Some takeaways from Dani’s perspectives:

  • PTSD doesn’t just affect veterans, 1 in 8 children suffers enough trauma to have long lasting negative effects in terms of both mental health and physical health well into adulthood.
  • These 1 in 8 children can expect to experience a lifespan that is 20 years shorter that their peers.
  • The fact is combat is not the only type of trauma, it can happen to anyone other types of trauma can include and not limited to car accidents, serious illness, witnessing a death, some other type of violence, living in poverty can be a type of trauma etc.
  • Some of the things we can do is be real allies to children including not keeping them at arms length but make them feel heard, seen and understood.
