Video: Mental Health and the NDIS

Some takeaways from the video from Carers Australia:

  • When it was originally proposed, mental health issues weren’t going to be considered part of the NDIS, but people subsequently recognized that organizations like the World Health Organization recognized psychosocial disability as a particular disability and so it was included
  • Often people were psychosocial disability previously fell through all the gaps because they didn’t get the support for a short time
  • The supports that you can get through the NDIS are very recovery focused

Video: Lead Like a Scientist: Experiments are Key to Unleashing Potential | Charlotte Blank | TEDxClayton

Some takeaways from Charlotte’s perspective:

  • There is no magic list of principles for workplace transformation because leadership is not about magic, good leadership according to Charlotte comes down to a science
  • You don’t need a degree in psychology to lead like a scientist you just have to be open to experimentation
  • Scientists know that the psychology of motivation is not as simple as a straightforward do this get that linear relationship which suggests that more money produces more effort which leads to greater performance the relatively recent boom and behavioural economics and social psychology research shows us that people are influenced by a host of non-conscious factors that affect how hard we try, cash is not always King and more is not always better humans are more complex than that

Video: Emotional Mastery: The Gifted Wisdom of Unpleasant Feelings | Dr Joan Rosenberg

Some takeaways from Joan’s perspective:

  • If you can experience and move through eight unpleasant feelings, you can pursue anything you want in life
  • The Formula: One choice, 8 feelings, 90 seconds (known also to Joan’s colleagues and clients as the Rosenberg reset)
  • Choice: Moment to moment choices (little choices), make the choice to stay present, fully present, It’s about awareness, not avoidance
  • 8 unpleasant feelings: sadness, shame, helplessness, anger, vulnerability, embarrassment, disappointment and frustration
  • 90 Seconds: Neuroscientists suggest that, when an emotional feeling gets triggered, chemicals are released by our brain that flush through our blood stream and they activate bodily sensations. It’s sort of a biochemical rush, and then flush. What we feel emotionally is felt in the body first, as a bodily or physical sensation. That biochemical rush we can think of as a wave, and, when that wave gets fired off in the body, it lasts roughly 60 to 90 seconds, which means feelings are temporary. So, from the time it gets fired off in the brain and it goes through our blood stream and then dissipates: 60 to 90 seconds, ride the wave

Video: The most scarce resource on the planet: Mindset of abundance | Naveen Jain

Some takeaways from Naveen’s perspective:

  • Humans have been programmed to think from the mindset of scarcity (example: fighting over things that are in abundance)
  • Changing the mindset from scarcity to abundance enables the person to realize nothing but the potential they have rather than things that can’t be done
  • Every single thing that we think is scarce can be created in abundance
  • You have to have a mindset that says nothing is impossible
  •  Naveen asserts that anyone who starts to think something is impossible what happens is it becomes impossible for you not for anyone else

Video: Abundance Is A Choice | Elaine Starling

Some takeaways from Elaine’s perspective:

  • We can choose between a poverty mindset and abundance mindset once we know our current mindset
  • A poverty mindset may include many factors including giving up on yourself, it doesn’t feel good, it’s restrictive and confining
  • What appeared to be separate topics being researched by Elaine were all tangible examples of abundance and mindset can create this tangible abundance
  • Your mindset can determine your experience
  • Creating the mindset you want involves looking at your attention (what we focus on) and intention (how we want to feel in the present moment)
  • Poverty mindset: Attention involves focusing on ‘what is not working’, ‘what we don’t like’, ‘What’s going wrong’
  • Abundance mindset: Attention is on ‘what is working’, ‘what we are doing well’, ‘what we do like’, ‘what we appreciate’, ‘what we’re grateful for’
  • Poverty mindset: Intention involves focusing on ‘being right all the time’ which may result to being closed to new ideas
  • Abundance mindset: Intention is the opposite to being receptive and open to new ideas, insights and opportunities
  • Attention and intention improving from within may result in the external world also improving

Video: How to deal with gaslighting | Ariel Leve

Some takeaways from Ariel’s perspective:

  • Remain defiant: Trusting her version of reality and not allowing it to be altered on demand
  • Recognize there will never be accountability: Asserting herself was not just useful but it was harmful because the person gaslighting you will not be able to respond to reason or logic
  • Let go of the wish for it to be different
  • Develop a health detachment

Video: The surprising habits of original thinkers | Adam Grant

Some takeaways from Adam’s perspective:

  • To be original you don’t have to be first, you just have to be different and better
  • In Adam’s research he discovered there are two kinds of doubt there’s self doubt (that can be paralyzing leading someone to freeze) and idea doubt (that can be energizing and motivating you to test, to experiment and to refine)
  • There is good evidence that Firefox and Chrome users significantly outperform Internet Explorer and Safari users
  • Vuja de is when you look at something you’ve seen many times before and all of a sudden see it with fresh eyes
  • They know that in the long run, our biggest regrets are not our actions but also our inactions.
